You CAN post, but you can only post in the Introduction forum! Head your elegant self down there and post something about yourself that isn't about viagra, home mortgages, bootleg rolexes, etc. etc. to show that you're not a bot, and we'll activate you for posting elseware?

Yep. But it keeps the spambots contained to one area! So, yeah, it's a manual way to control spam.
How long will it take to be activated?
Usually less than a day. Sometimes a few minutes or hours. Sorry about the wait, but please remember to come back and visit us!
What if I forget to come back?
If you are registered but have 0 posts, your account will get deleted at some random point in time once it's relatively old. You'd have to reregister and do that awful captcha again.
If you have at least 1 post, your account won't get culled. But we'll miss you.
